As the holiday season comes to a close, if you have children at home you likely have a house full of new gadgets and toys for the kids. The U.S. Consumer Produce Safety Commission has advised that there have been several toy recalls lately so be sure that you check out the new gifts for safety concerns. Defective products are always dangerous but when they involve toy hazards, the danger intensifies. Toys can be recalled for a multitude of reasons including: choking hazards, burn hazards, strangulation hazards, sharp edges. If your child received any of these toys, you should immediately secure the toys and return them to the store where they were purchased. The recent toy recalls include the following:

  • Kidgets Animal Sock Top Slippers – these slippers were sold at Family Dollar from September 2011 through October 2011, the animal eyes can come off and pose a choking hazard;
  • KEDS "Know It All" Girls' Shoe – the shoes are black and pink and were sold in various department stores in October 2011, the ornamental stars located on the heels of the shoes can pull away which poses a laceration hazard;
  • Build-A-Bear Swimwear Set with Inflatable Inner Tube – the suit was sold at the Build-A-Bear Workshop stores nationwide from April-August 2011; the inner tube may be pulled over the todder's head which poses a strangulation hazard;
  • Toulouse-LapTrec Magnetic Sketchboards – this item was sold at Target from March 2010-March 2011; the magnetic tip of the pen has been coming off and posing a choking hazard;
  • Disney Fairies Plastic Racing Trikes – the toy was sold at Target stores from July-December 2009; there is a plastic fairy (Tinkerbell) on top of the handle bar which can pose a cutting/laceration hazard if the child falls;
  • B.O.B. Jogging Strollers – the stroller was sold at REI, Amazon, and Babies R' Us from November 1998 – October 2011, there is a logo sewn to the canopy which can come off and pose a choking hazard;
  • IKEA BUSA Children's Folding Tent – the tent was sold at IKEA only from August-September 2011; the steel frame has been known to poke through the nylon tent fabric and pose a laceration hazard;
  • Little Tikes Toy Workshop and Tool Sets – the tool sets were sold by LIttle Tikes; the plastic toy nails are oversized but still small enough to swallow and pose a choking hazard;
  • Pottery Barn Kids Dolls – the hair loops can fit over a small child's head and pose a strangulation hazard;
  • Phil&Teds Metoo Chair – the chairs can detach from the table and pose a fall hazard, the chairs can also pinch and amputate fingers;
  • Radio Flyer Scoot 'n Zoom – the toy can flip over;
  • Battat B. FunKeys with remote and Parents Magazine Electronic Toy Keys – the metal keys and plastic ring can break posing a choking hazard;
  • Bravo Sports Pogo Sticks by Disney – the rubber tip can wear out and pose a fal hazard, also the handlebar can come off and expose sharp edges;
  • Fisher-Price Little People Builders' Load 'n Go Wagon – the plastic handle can pose a laceration hazard;
  • Adventure Playsets Wooden Swing Sets – the wood in the posts can weaken as a result of rotting;
  • Rugby Children's Pain Concentrated Drops – there is no child-resistant packaging which can cause overdosing if the child gets a hold of it;
  • B.O.B. Strollers – the drawstring on the back can cause a strangulation hazard;
  • IKEA Sniglar Cribs – the mattress can come across and suffocate the baby;
  • Dorel Car Seats – the harness does not always stay locked;
  • Lowe's Roman Shades and Roll-Up Blinds – strangulation hazard;
  • Children's Benadryl and Junior Strength Motrin – "insufficiencies in the development of the manufacturing process";
  • Britax Chaperone Infant Car Seat – the chest clip on the baby seat ban break and pay cut or choke the child;
  • Ethan Allen Drop-Side Cribs, Victory Land and Angel Line – the rail can detatch and the baby or child can either become entrapped or could fall from the crib;
  • Hyland's Teething Tablets – the tabs contain belladonna which can cause serious harm in high doses, because the FDA has found varying amounts the recall was issued;
  • Graco Quattro and MetroLite Strollers – the child can get stuck and get a cut, bruise and have difficulty breathing;
  • Evenflo Maestro Combination Booster Seats – the seat may crack in a high speed front car crash;
  • Over 10 Million Fisher-Price Products – this recall includes toys, high chairs, and trikes, the inflatable balls pose a choking hazard, the high chair's legs can cause cuts, the car wheels can choke and the trikes' ignition key is dangerous;
  • Similac 8, 12.4, and 12.9 ounce formulas – some contain small beetles;
  • Chuck E. Cheese Toys – the light up rings and star classes can break into small pieces and expose batteries;
  • Tween Brands Metal Jewelry – contains toxic cadmium;
  • Pottery Barn Kids Drop-Side Cribs, Stork Cribs, and Dorel Asia Cribs – the side rails can break and detach;
  • McDonald's Shrek Drinking Glasses – the designs contain toxic metal cadmium (which can lead to bone softening and kidney failure);
  • Infantino Infant Slings – suffocation;
  • Graco High Chairs – the screws in the front legs can loosen and fall out;
  • Graco Strollers – the Passage, Alano and Spree strollers have hinges than can pose a finger amputation hazard;
  • Bobby Chupete Pacifiers – the mouth guard is too small which poses a choking hazards;
  • Maclaren Strollers – the stroller has a hinge mechanism which can cut or amupate a finger;
  • Plum Organics Apple and Carrot Portable Pouch Baby Food – can cause botulism;
